7 Ways to Drive More Traffic to Your Website Using Facebook

Last updated: Digital Marketing 4 min read
When you set up your business website, you probably did it because you were hoping it would bring in new clients and grow your business. But if you like most business owners you took an “if I build it, they will come approach. How’s that workin’ out for you? So when they didn’t come you began to explore options and found things like SEO (search engine optimization), pay-per-click advertising, blogging and social media marketing to name a few. (Am I close?) I know you’ve heard about Facebook but you probably ignored it as a viable means of finding new clients or for driving traffic to your website because you thought it was just for your kids and grand-kids. BIG mistake!
  • There are over 750 million Facebook users.
  • Half of active Facebook users log on to Facebook in any given day.
  • People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook.
  • Over 1/2 of these users are between the age of 26 and 65.
  • There are over 16 million Facebook business pages (fan page or “like” pages as their called).
These stats barely scratch the surface of the powerhouse that is Facebook. So, ok, we’ve established that its’ important to join the 21st century have a Facebook business page but the question still remains, “How do I use it to drive traffic to my web site and build my business?” I’m going to spell it out right now so PAY ATTENTION and take notes… there will be a test later! 🙂
  1. SET UP YOUR Facebook “like” PAGE: Yeah, I’m Mr. Obvious but there is a crucial element most people get wrong. If your business name is Peter’s Pretty Piccadilly, what ever a Piccadilly is, NO ONE will probably search for that term. In other words, you want you Facebook page name to contain some keywords; words people might search to find your page. So if Peter sells pickles, then he may want to have “Dill Pickles”, “Sweet Pickles” or some form of pickle in his name.
  2. Fill Out ALL the Information: On the information page it’s important to tell people all the relevant fact about your company ESPECIALLY YOUR WEBSITE ADDRESS! At the bottom of the info page is a place to put your website so don’t forget to add it to create a link to your site. Google and other search indexes do scan these page for relevant information and links back to your website help your website gain search engine page ranking.
  3. Optimize Your Fan Page for Marketing: You want to design (or have designed) a full size Avatar (profile picture) the encourage people to “like” the page. TELL THEM WHAT TO DO SPECIFICALLY. Ex. Have an arrow pointing to the like button at the top of the Avatar with a caption “Click “like NOW!”.
  4. Don’t Forget the 5 Little Thumbnail Pictures at the Top of the fan page: I can’t believe how many prominent companies fail to use the marketing space these 5 little pictures provide. If you do nothing, whatever pictures you post will just randomly show up there and do noting for you to sell anything. Instead have graphics made that represent 5 of your services that you want to promote. When you upload the graphic, there is a place for you to put a “description”. In place of a description, create a link to your website by putting the URL for the page that relates to the service that the graphic describes. Again, this help with SEO for you website as well as driving traffic to it.
  5. Create a Landing Page: When people visit your Facebook business page, they will land on your “wall”. To prevent this, create an advertising landing page that promotes an offer, has a way to capture those precious emails and names and redirects them to a sales page on your website. Once the landing page is created, go into your admin area and set the landing page as the “default” page so when people come for the first time the land on that page instead of your wall.
  6. Use Facebook Ads: Facebook ads are highly targeted demographic display ads used on Facebook to promote your business. You save about 50% by redirecting the clicks through to your Facebook business page instead of to your web site. The strategy here is to add a “revel tab” to your “landing tab” so when people are directed to your page from the ad they have to “like” the page before they can see your offer. Then when they opt-in to your offer they are then re-directed to your website. This way you grow your fans on your Facebook fan page, collect names and emails for future marketing, get them on your website where you make a sales offer and hopefully sell something!
  7. Add “like” Buttons to Your Website: To create an interaction between your website and your Facebook page, add a “like” button to your website. (You get the code from Facebook.) There are several styles but the on the one proven to get the most clicks is the one that shows people who have “liked” your page. It’s also been proven that you get a better response when you put the button at the top AND bottom of a page or article and also when you allow comments.
WOW! Bet you didn’t know you could do all that with Facebook did you? Well there’s even more. You can add a contact form from your favorite auto-responder, Add notes to stream your WordPress blog posts, add a review tab, ad videos and photo galleries, have contests and events and more.
