The Triangle Interactive Marketing Association (TIMA) is hosting their second annual Web Doctor event and TheeDesign Studio has been asked to participate as one of the “Web Doctors.” This year the Web Doctor will be held on Wednesday, March 13th at Spy, an upscale lounge in Raleigh. The event is open to the public. Admission is $15 at the door and free for TIMA members who preregister.

The TIMA Web Doctor event brings experienced website specialists in the field of web design, internet marketing and search engine optimization together from around the Triangle to present “Before & After” case studies of client websites. At the end of the presentation audience members will offer up their own website design troubles for on-the-spot diagnosis from the experts.

This is TheeDesign Studio’s first year presenting at Web Doctor and is sending team members Heather Curtis and Laurence Valachovic.

The presentation will unveil a new ecommerce website that TheeDesign Studio web developers have been working on for a client these past couple of months. The site was built on Magento, an ecommerce platform and content management system. The new website will also feature some exciting interactive marketing and social media strategies that the audience will have to wait to be revealed on Wednesday!

About TIMA

Triangle Interactive Marketing Association (TIMA) is a Raleigh-Durham community of interactive marketing and design professionals dedicated to enriching members’ careers and knowledge in digital media. They focus on uniting interactive technologies and traditional marketing principles through networking and education.

Heather has an extensive background in technical and marketing communications. She became involved in the STC through a Technical Communications graduate program at Duke University. This will be her second year serving as a competition judge.

STC judges are recruited based on their experience in writing, editing, developing documentation, and/or artistic design of technical illustrations. Judging allows professionals to gain new insight and discuss writing, editing, and design issues with communicators regionally and internationally.

Judges examine the content, structure, and design of each entry, and decide on an award based on the individual entry’s strengths and weaknesses and how well it fulfills its purpose. Evaluation criteria depend on the type of entry. For entries such as reference guides, judges examine how well an entry provides information appropriate to the task. For users’ guides, does the publication explain topics or concepts thoroughly and concisely, and how well does it help the user complete a task. For marketing materials, they decide whether the publication motivates people to buy or use a product. Training materials should assist in the process of teaching.

Three levels of recognition are awarded in each competition category:

• Distinguished
• Excellence
• Merit

These awards do not necessarily represent first, second, or third places, but instead are levels of accomplishment with reference to a standard. Each entry is evaluated on its own qualities against the standard. Winners of the highest award, Distinguished, advance to the STC International Summit Awards held in the Spring.

With any of our projects, the first step is to do extensive research on the client and their project so we can clearly portray the message and purpose of the video. With New Gods, this meant accurately communicating the director’s vision to the talent.

Next, we created the audition logistics, a list of specific tasks we needed to complete in preparation for audition day. Working with Barbette Hunter, an experienced talent coordinator, was paramount to the success of this video.

At this point, it was time to create a press release announcing the audition. With Barbette’s input, our team utilized several avenues to inform potential talent of the project, including

• Emailing 250 actors;
• Uploading information to several casting call websites; and
• Tagging the press release on Facebook.com and TarHeel.ning.com.

In the days leading up to the audition, we emailed interested actors the script and posted all of their head shots to Flickr and resumes to our online file storage server. This allowed the production crew to easily access information on potential talent.

After much excitement and hard work, audition day finally arrived. By following our carefully thought-out schedule, our team was able to accomplish all tasks in one afternoon.
